March 23rd, 2017 by

Before you purchase your next luxury sedan, its important to research what each model offers to make sure you receive the best safety ratings, fuel economy, amenities and more. John Eagle Acura knows comparison-shopping takes time and effort, so we’re showing how the Acura RLX and the Cadillac CTS stack up in this comparison. Both these vehicles offer respectable features, but the Acura RLX in Houston comes out ahead in this comparison.

Acura RLX vs. Cadillac CTS – Engine, Transmission and Speed

The 2017 Acura RLX comes with more powerful engines over the CTS sedan.

RLX 3.5 SOHC V6 310 HP
RLX Sport Hybrid 3.5 SOHC V6 377 HP
CTS 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder 268 HP
CTS 3.6 DOHC V6 335 HP

The RLX offers an available sequential manual gearbox (SMG) with no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode. A SMG is more efficient than a conventional automatic. The CTS sedan does not offer a SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

As tested by Motor Trend, the Acura RLX V6 is faster than the Cadillac CTS 2.0 turbo. The RLX reaches 0-60 MPH in only 5.8 seconds while the CTS clocks in at a slower speed.

Acura RLX vs. Cadillac CTS – Fuel Economy

Regenerative brakes improve the RLX Sport Hybrid’s fuel economy by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The CTS does not offer a regenerative braking system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the RLX uses regular unleaded gas (premium recommended for maximum performance). The CTS V-Sport requires premium which costs more.

Acura RLX vs. Cadillac CTS – Additional Features

To make trips more comfortable for drivers and passengers, the RLX offers more passenger volume than the CTS. Passengers enjoy more front hip room, front shoulder rom, rear legroom, rear hip room and rear shoulder room than the CTS.

Rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on/off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The driver doesn’t need to adjust the wipers in the RLX removing a distraction when driving. The CTS comes with standard manually variable intermittent wipers which must be continually adjusted.
